Customizing the UI and Widgets

Questions and answers on how to best use Instant Developer

Re: Customizing the UI and Widgets

Giuseppe,

I will not be available for the webinar but I look forward to watching it later. Will it be available?

If the purpose of the webinar is to continue discussing this and see examples I don't think it will the most efficient use of time - at least for me. I think this discussion has already provided several examples of what we might consider better UI's. Study what has been said in this discussion, study the alternatives/examples mentioned in this discussion and compare them to Inde's UI.

Again, I think Inde has a superior product compared to many of the alternatives when we consider functionality, BUT the UI is holding it back. Plain and simple, the UI must be the easiest part of using Inde. It should be completely customizable and flexible without having to do any major work. I want a grid here, ok, click drag drop done. I want a form there, click drag drop done. I want a tabbed interface with a horizontal menu, click drag drop... you get my point?

If pouring over a voluminous manual in search for an answer or paying for support to show me how its done is in the cards then, frankly, I'll keep shopping.

Thanks for listening!

Jose

g.lanzi wrote:Hi to all of you guys, I'm Giuseppe Lanzi and I'm the director of the support services of Instant Developer.

I got the point that the answer "this things can be done with InDe" isn't what you want to get from this thread. I think I understand your point of view: InDe seems a good tool to you but you see some weakness that make you say that it's UI isn't on the proper level or that some solutions are too hard to discover. Plus, you fear that getting the proper result and mastering InDE will require too much effort.

Let me say that my first goal isn't to get a tool with tons of features, but to make you guys use it with satisfaction. Of course it takes time to master it, and for that reason we created other effective support tools in addition to the manuals and the documentation center: online courses, coaching sessions (in english too, of course), webinars and dedicated solutions, too.

Now, rather than start an explanation on how to get a certain result or try to completely understand by forum what you're expecting from the tool, I choose a different path.

What I care the most is keep in touch with you and make you use InDe for your application with success, so I propose to you to set up a 1 hour webinar.

During this webinar we can continue this thread, seeing some examples and find toghether the most suitable InDe solution for you.

Are you guys available on the next week? Do you want to invite someone?

Giuseppe,

Depending on the time .. I have some availability next Wednesday 6/18 and Thursday 6/19. I'm in the central time zone in US. It looks like you are 7 hours ahead of me.

To make it a good use of time, my expectation is that you will demonstrate:

1. Examples with UI's customized to something similar to what I've shared in this thread.
2. Guidance on how it was done.

Thank you,

JT

Great! June the 19th is good for me, too. I agree with the topics you suggest.

Is your timezone UTC - 5, isn't it? We are in UTC +2 now. Can we schedule for june the 19th @ 9AM your time, which corresponds to:
- 4PM UTC +2 (Italy).
- 2PM UTC.

I read with interest the thread from the beginning and it would be interesting for me too, if possible, follow the webinar.

On June 19 is my birthday, but I'm not rich enough to not work ... then at 4 PM (Italian time) could be present.

Giuseppe, let me know :-)

I would very interested but due to time difference and work schedule I will not be able to attend. It would be great if the webinar could be recorded and a link sent to interested parties. Thanks for the effort.

@johntalbott you where asking:
You do present a fair question. My need is to build an application with a UI similar to the Clinical Study example that I provided. It needs to run in a desktop browser, tablet, and phone.

Here is my answer. I've written an example that shows how I would do the Clinical Study example with a book and the Document Orientation. As you can see in the attached project there are just few lines of code... If you run it you can see that is behaves as you were asking in the thread... It's just a quick example (I spent no more than one hour for that)...

You should open it with version 13.1 (I haven't checked if it was working with previous versions... version 13.1 is in BETA and will be in its FINAL version next week).

Cheers.
