Report Automatic field resizing

Postby Ted Giles » 17 August 2019, 16:36

I have spent a lot of time trying to size a report section or Box based on the amount of text which is in the record.
Tried Fit, Move, None. The only way I can get it to work is make the boxes containing the text huge. That works but the report looks a mess if there is limited text in a particular box.

The four sections I need to show - and they can all contain text of various lengths are;

Item PK
Item Background
Item Details
Preferred Outcome.

My other report generator expands or contracts the text sections to accommodate the amount of text that is in the record.

Only one page is required for the three sections, with a new page being thrown on change of Item PK.

Any ideas?

Ted, I'm not sure if I have done a book exactly like that. But I think to get what you want you will need to have all of these fields in detail sections. You can have more than one detail section in a report if needed.

Page 287 of the inde-users-guide talks about resizing section boxes using this method.

Lol!
I am reading that section as your message came through.
It's a pity the other boxes don't just move down, but now I see the logic, its easily dooable.

Does mean though, that variable length text needs its own detail section.

The suggestion of @ljwilson is correct.
The resize of the report is different from the panel's one, use more than one section and you will obtain the result you're looking for.

Thanks G. I read the documentation a zillion times and must have skipped over the bit about having different sections for different field content.
All is good now thank you.
